The Vision

The Powell Family

Our overall vision for ministry is to make disciples that honor God and his word. The commission that Christ has given us is to "go" and "make disciples." The "Go" of our family is Bolivia and our ministry will focus on discipleship. Our long-term goal is church planting through discipleship, as we see in the early church, represented in the gospels and the book of Acts. We believe God provide needs so that we can meet them, and we see the this as a primary vehicle to building relationships and fostering discipleship. We are currently planting and growing a church in the area of Condebamba, a diverse suburb of Cochabamba. What started out as an outreach to the youth in the area, has become a bridge for meeting and connecting with families. The church plant is a work God is doing in and among these families and the youth we minister to. We are developing other ministry projects to care for the needs of those we minister to, whether in the form of clothing, food, water, housing, etc.

"What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
(James 2:14-17 ESV)

As we continue in this calling of missions ministry, we have set some goals for the next few years.

1. Network to establish at a thriving church body in Chiquicollo through discipleship and small groups; and to establish leadership development to provide leadership within a 4 year period. This project began in 2015 and the goal is to have a local pastor in place by 2020.
2. Establish a ministry of small group networks (bible studies and discipleship) throughout Condebamba and Chiquicollo by 2020. The idea is as believers grow spiritually that they be trained and given opportunity to begin discipleship and evangelism with the lost in their immediate area.
3. Develop a community ministry to provide housing, educational needs, etc for families in poverty by 2020. This is a dream that may take longer than our projected date, but our heart is to meet needs in a tangible way with the hope of carrying the gospel to the lost and broken. Through meeting these basic needs, and sharing the love of Christ, that the church in Cochabamba would be strengthened and see consistent growth.

Thank you for your prayer support for these endeavors. We are so excited about what God is doing through us in ministry for his glory.  To be counted as a worthy vessel, is our only hope and aim. We want less of us and more of him and to see his name glorified in all the earth. We revel in the goodness of our sovereign and mighty God. Be blessed!
